Question: Digi camera picture taking advice needed, how do I get the right color !?
I sell shirts on ebay that I embroider on!. The large picture of the entire shirt usually shows the correct color, but when I use the close up function or even zoom in on the design, usually about 4x7", the color is ugly!. Is there any way to fix this !? the close up is usually the one I post first so people can see the design, but the color needs to be right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to adjust the white balance on your camera!. If you're not able to do that on your camera, you best bet would be to take pictures of the shirts outside in a shaded area!. Natural light always works best!. Some cameras have a hard time adjusting to indoor light!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, it sounds like a white balance issue!. This is another one of those questions that I so wish people would give specifics of the camera they are using!. Just saying digi camera means nothing!.

If you are using a DSLR you need to use a grey card to set a proper white balance in RAW processing, and this can also be used for proper exposure setting!. Now I am not going to go into details on how to do this because you may not even be using this type of camera or have any idea of what I mean!.

But even if you are using a common point and shoot camera, they all have various white balance setting presets!. You need to use one of the presets that is a better match to your lighting!. If indoors under typical tungsten lighting, just set your camera to the tungsten setting!. Same with flourescent lights!. In most cases, leaving the camera in AUTO white balance mode will result is poor color on anything other than outdoor shots in daylight!.

Yes, good white balance on the camera will ensure that you get the best color out of the camera but!.!.!.

Keep in mind that what you see on your computer monitor may not be a good representation of those colors!. In order to get good and correct color from your computer, your monitor needs to be "color calibrated"!. The best way to do this is with a hardware attachment that costs about $200 at the low end of capability!. I am saving my pennies to get one for myself!
