Depends on what you want to do!. TIFF is better because it is a non-lossy format!. What that means is that every time you edit and save a TIFF you do not lose any data!. A JPEG is a lossy format: every time you edit and resave a JPEG, you lose data!. It's just the way the format is structured: JPEGs use an algorithm that "decides" what data can be discarded!. Eventually you lose image quality if you keep editing a JPEG!.

Another advantage of TIFFs is that they support layers (if you use Photoshop, you know what layers are)!. JPEGS do not support layers!.

However, you will need to use a JPEG if you are going to do things like upload images to a website!. They are pretty much a universally recognized format, and their smaller size makes them more usable for doing things like uploading or attaching to an e-mail!.

If you are editing and saving images, your best bet is to use either TIFF or native Photoshop files while you are editing!. Then you can always do a save as to JPEG, so you keep a high-quality version and a lower quality/smaller file for uploading, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
