Question: How do I better execute this photo idea!?
I'm doing a series for fun on plastic toy figures!. (Inspired by velvet g - http://www!.flickr!.com/photos/adrian/3121!.!.!.

I think my army dude shots are ok, but my firemen one are lacking!. I think a part of this is due to the transparency of the red plastic!. I am using a 430ez flash and a lighter to light everything!.

Specs are:
Canon Rebel XTI
18-55mm kit lens (have others available if they'd be better)
Close-up lens filters
Green paper over flash to create greener color
10 seconds at f8 so I have time to move the lighter around!.
The photos in the background are ones I shot previously or created in Illustrator!.

personally i think the firemen shots are better lit that the army men, especially the second one, the brighter!. For the army men, i think you should consider a spot light, to make them cast a shadow on the surface, because right now they seem to float!.!.!.

About the transparency - it actually gives additional sense of heat and realism, so i think it's ok as it is!. But it depends on the brightness of the final product, since if you have you monitor brightness set higher than me, you could possibly see right through!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Instead of using a lighter (though it is working), try Mylar and apply lighting (red yellow and orange) at different angles with the Mylar pulled up and wrinkled!.!.!. I think you will be awed at those results!.

Add some back lighting to minimize the transparency

I don't care!.!.!. I liked several of them as they were!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

wow i love these! I remember trying to create something cool with toy soldiers, but it def didn't turn out this good!.i wish i could see more but your flickr link isn't working! I actually like your firemen shots the best

1 and 2!. im not sure which one i like better, i love the lighting on the firemen on the first one!. Though the 2nd one feels a little overexposed, it really gives this illusion of great heat!.

3 I like the rocket launcher the way it already

4!. love this one, it would be a tad bit better if the soldier's based wasn't cropped though!.

5!.Not too into the center/top view composition!.

I hope this helps!. this is a great idea!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
