All you need to do is put your subject in front of a bright background and then expose for the light part!. It's easier with a camera where you can control the exposure such as an SLR, but if you put a subject in front of a bright enough background (sunsets work well for the colours) you should be able to get a normal compact camera to expose for the bright part and create the effect you're after!. Otherwise, on a compact, choose a setting that is made to use higher shutter speeds such as a sport mode, or bright sunlight!.

Anytime you put people next to a window and don't use any kind of fill in light (like a flash) then you will get silhouettes like this!. The camera meter will pick up the light from the window as the exposure and the people or objects in front of the window will look like shadows!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

turn all the lights off!.!.!.!. stand next to a window when it isn't too bright or else the picture will be blurred from the light(in the morning or before the sun about to go down!.!.!.!. NO FLASH!!! Make the shapes of letters!.!.!.!. oh is that picture jpd (as in the studio!?!?):) you should do DP!.!.!.:) hope it helps!!!:)Www@QuestionHome@Com
