Question: Why do some digital cameras and camera phones take the picture 10 seconds after you push the button!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It is known as shutter lag and is one of the drawbacks of digital cameras and phones!. It doesn't happen with DSLRs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As others have noted, it's called shutter lag!. Before you push the shutter release button, the sensor is being used to display the scene on your LCD!. When you press the button, the camera must turn this off and set up the sensor to capture the image!. This is what causes the lag!.

Digital SLRs do not have this problem because they have an optical view finder!. So the sensor is always ready to capture the image!. The possible exception is with DSLRs that have Live View, which is much like the phone camera or point-and-shoot camera!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Shutter lag is the big difference between a 'point and shoot' or cameraphone and a DSLR!.

Others are small noisy sensor, DSLR's have larger ones so pictures are 'cleaner', only save in Jpeg!. Jpeg 'dumps' up to half the data recorded by the sensor, DSLR's can save the Raw data!.

Particularly with camera phones the quoted resolution is 'interpolated' in other words the camera invents data to pad out the image file so it will print bigger, but not better!. 2, 3 or 4Mp sounds better than 450K which is what the sensor (the only spec that matters) actually is, sometimes less!. In short useless for prints, not bad for web use!.

Pro-sumer cameras address the problem of sensor size and picture quality, but can often still have shutter lag, so if you want to interact with your subject, photographing children or pets, and have great image quality then DSLR is the only way to go!.

Ten seconds seems a long time!. My camera has a self timer mode whereby you can set it up and get yourself in the picture as well!.
It has two settings ten seconds and twenty seconds!.
Perhaps you have or have seen these cameras in timer mode!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

poor quality and program response!.
