I have that lens and only use it for outdoor sports using a high ISO to maintain a high shutter speed!. It is not, a good lens for food photography as you won't get the Depth-of Field control you desire (I actually bought a 50mm macro for the food pics and have been very happy with that)!.

It appears you are trying to cover too many bases with too little equipment (sorry for the pun, just couldn't resist)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sports photography requires fast lens'!.!.!. 3!.5 for a 28mm is snail slow but it is okay at 200mm (not great but it's okay)!. The problem with it though is that it's really not long enough for serious sports photography!.!.!. you really want a 70-300 (if you are going to use a Zoom) for sports!.!.!. you'll find yourself coming up short a lot with only 200mm!.

In order to use your lens for macro photography, you will need to add an extension tube!.!.!. just a short one (shorter tube = less loss of light) because any extension is going to cost you at least one stop in speed (your fastest f-stop will now be as little as f/5!.6 or higher because of it)!.

In order to connect electronically with your camera body, you would need to spend extra for the extension tube with the electronic couplings but you don't have to do that if you're willing to compensate by manually making your settings and focus adjustments!. It's not rocket science!.!.!. it's photography!. You will get the hang of that in time if you pay attention to light requirements of an image in the relationship between aperture and shutter speed!.

No I bet you're REALLY confused!.

If i were you, i wouldn't get this lens!. Once you get to 200mm's, in my opinion, Image Stabilization is a must!. I have a 200mm lens that doesn't have IS, and when the lighting isn't perfect, or if you're shooting at dusk, you're almost always going to get Blur in your shots!. If it were a shorter lens, than you wouldn't need it that much!. also, it's an ' ok ' Macro lens, but you still have to stand 1!.5 Feet away, which is pretty far away if you're trying to film Food on the table!. You should just save up fifty more dollars, and get this lens:

a 28-135mm IS lens, better build quality, proper Manual Focus ring, a distance scale window, it's a good lens!. You'll really benefit from the Image stabilization in this lens!.

It is just fine !.!.!. the 70-200 mm IS will not require you to learn how to hold your camera as steady as you would using a standard lens, but we have been doing that for over 50 years !.!.!.

If you are a pro, then you will just have to budget for the lenses you need!. Like the 70-200 mm f/2!.8, 400 mm f/2!.8 and 600 mm f/4!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The 28-200mm is a variable aperture lens!. This is fine for outdoor sports, but not alright for those sports that are indoors!. As an alternative to the 70-200mm f2!.8 IS, you might consider the 70-200mm f2!.8 non-IS, the 70-200mm f4 non-IS, too!. Both would give you better results and faster focus!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It will do fine, though you would be far better off with the 70-200mm f/2!.8!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
