Question: Painting Material!? What should I useee!?
I was going to make a costume for my sister, but I am not sure if I should attempt to sew some material on the parts that need to be colored, or if it is possible to paint material!?

Could I use regular paint and just paint where I Need to paint!? The entire costume does not need to be colored, just a few parts of it

You can use acrylic paint on fabric!. Acrylics are waterproof when they dry!. I have rags that I use to wipe excess paint on, or to dry a wet paint brush (so the paint that ends up on the fabric is watery) and I have washed and dried them without the paint coming off!.

The only issue I can think of is the thickness of the paint- too thick and it might either "peel" off, or make the fabric really stiff!. If you water it down a little it shouldn't do that!. Try laying the fabric out on plastic (garbage bag!?) to keep the paint from leaking through!. Then let it dry before moving it!. And I'd use cotton material as I am not sure how acrylics will last on a synthetic!.

They make fabric mediums to add to acrylic paint, but I don't know if you need that for a costume!. Experiment with the paint and a piece of the fabric you plan to use, let it dry, then wash to test!. And acrylic craft paint would probably be fine- they are less expensive and thinner (more like white glue) than fine art paints!. They even sell them in the craft section of Walmart!.

Good luck! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
