Question: What are the differences between Renaissance architecture and Gothic architecture!?

Lilish,
Renaissance architecture:
The arches used what is called a "key stone!." The key stone was always placed at the top of arches and was larger than the other stones in the arches!. Arches were rounded at the top!. Buildings were always symmetrical!. In the renaissance architects used the three styles of columns they borrowed from the Greeks -Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian!.

Gothic architecture:
The Gothic arches have a distinct peak at the top of the arch!. The design of buildings was asymmetrical!. Often the number of spires that were often used in Gothic building was different on one side of an entrance than on the other!.

I recommend you do photo or image searches on the Internet, and in the library!. Notice the difference in how the windows were built, the overall building shapes, and how the tops of building looked!. Be careful, though!. Sometimes images have been contributed by people who took them on vacation and thought the places they photographed belonged to a particular style, but did not belong to that era of design!. Use the images of buildings from books written about that era!. A research librarian will help you find what you need!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gothic architecture involves the designs seen in dark basements populated by 25 year old bums who never moved out of their mothers' homes and believe that one day C'Thulu will rise and swallow the earth!.
