The only thing that makes a "bad" artist is producing "bad" art" How the image was produced should not be apparent from the final result!.

People seem to come up with some pretty strange "rules" about art!. I read a question, which was repeated, later, several times, that suggested that only someone who could draw from memory would be a "real" artist, and someone who draws from models is not!.

What rot!

All great artists, at some point, use models for any image that they want to appear realistic!. Da Vinci, Van Gogh, O'Keefe, Picasso, Warhol, Frazzetta, et al!. They all use models!. I'm a professional illustrator and I almost ALWAYS use, either, live models or photographic references!. If I want to depict a 1922 Bugatti, I'm not going to guess at what it looks like!.

For a pro, time really DOES equal money!. Here's an old "Murphy's Law" that I took to heart many years ago:

Never draw anything you can copy!.

Never copy anything you can trace!.

Never trace anything you can cut out and paste down!.

Now, THERE'S a set of rules you can bank on!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Doesn't mean you are a 'bad' artist but not well rounded!.

If you are going to grow and continue as an artist you will have to tackle these areas sooner or later!. So far, all you are doing is taking short cuts!. Short cuts are okay occassionally, if it is to save time!.!.!.but not because you cannot actually DO that task!. You can learn anatomy!.!.!.once you take the time to learn it!.!.!.then you have it!. It is a gift you give yourself!.

You will never regret it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Lots people use posers to get the proportions of the body correct, and unless you are working in fashion, where the models' bodies are a lot thinner and the legs are longer, you are fine with a poser, I've had college professors who still use them, but as you practice, I would try to learn to get a mental image of the images to keep anyone from complaining!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!. all artist need some point of reference!. whether that be a model, photograph, mannequin, or whatever as the original source for them to work from!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes and no depends on which art your looking at if its fashion design no because its your own and if its all the others yes real artists dont trace unless its a base or an outline!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nope, you are just being resourceful!.

If you add on then that is fine, it is just for an under-skeleton, so it's good!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Leonardo Da Vinci used tracing paper so no it doesn't make you a bad artist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
