Question: How do I blend paint colors!!?

I'm painting a sunrise and for the sun and sky/water I want it to gradually turn from one color to the next!.!.!. For example, the sun will be bright yellow near the bottom and gradually get orange as it goes out towards the edges!.!.!.

First make sure to paint to water with the warm sparkling affect the seting, or rising sun will have on the surface of the water!.

To give you an idea of what I mean, go here!. You can block out the music if you want, but PAY ATTENTION TO THE SKIES!!! (also the waves of the water!. Note the waves are done in a lighter color to represent movement!.)

I know these are just examples, but you will see how the artists use the colors!. Dark (water) contrasting with light (the sky) Notice the different scenes like in the beggining, EXTREME use of shadow!. Near the end, at New York Harbor, the sun is rising!. Again, light affects everything it touches!. With these paintings from Disney, you can see how the sun is on the water!. You must pay attention to shadowing, details and making things look 3-d!. Wthout the sun, you get a totally different atmosphere!. The lighting is different, the shadow and the way they are cast are different!. So overall, this will affect your colors greatly!.

As far as blending your colors gradually on the paper, think as if you were shading with pencils!. It get from light to dark, dark to light, right!? Just think this way with colors: Dark red to red to scarlet to orange!.

Second, mix your colors in a palette accordingly!. Mix cornflower yellow, pinks goldenrod and dark oranges and tans!. (aka warm colors) Whites and ivories to add extra bright spots!.!.!.

Study the color spectrum!. The world revoloves around the colors humans can see!. (Minus infrared) Light casts a pattern in the sky, but the sky can give off BUEATIFUL arrays of colors and werid shemes all at once!. Try not to be to rigid, too stiff in your color choices!. If you do, your painting will turn out looking to structured and not free!.
Add some purples in there!. Even a blinding bright pinks or ruby reds!. The sky and the colors can be pretty as they are strange and unpredicatble!. Sunsets never look like they did yesterday!.

Brush quality is great too!. You can also use songes to dab in some clouds!.

So!.!.!. when you begin to paint, I would start with the water first!.!.!. handz down!. Start with a strait line!. If your going to add waves, paint those in!. Second, draw the sky!. The base color of the sky, which would be a tangerine orange for you!. Wait for that to dry!. The add the sun!. If it is sunrise, the sun in real life is not YELLOW!. It is orange sometimes even like a fireball of something mixed with pink and orange!.

NOTE: IF YOU ARE WORKING IN OILS!.!.!. THE OIL WILL TAKE FOREVER TO DRY!!!! water colors are great and chalk pastels are great!. I favor those!. I only use oils to get an extra kick!. Then chose your meida (aka paper)

oils= canvas (Which the works done in the video you might have seen was done on a canvas!.)

watercolors= cold pressed water color paper
inks= bristol (best)

and so forth!.

You start with the yellow then take the next color put above it!. then you Zigzag the paint with out taking the brush up!. zig in one color then the next!. Then you do the back and forth strokes to blend and soften!. Orange would be the next color from yellow!. But you can have yellow, yellow ochre then a yellowish orange then orange!. It would probably be easiest with watercolors, since the colors will run into each smoothly!. Perhaps you can use a damp sponge and run it from the base most color to the ends of the paper to make it smoother!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

get a paper plate and pour the colors you want to mix on it!. Stir it around so that it is completely mixed together!. And congratulations you have a new color!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

you start with the yellow and add the tiniest amount of red at a time until you get the orange you want every time until you get done!. yellow+red=orange and a little goes a looooong way i promise!. good luck!! =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

you have to have a few different colors then you have to blend them together!.!.!.!. its actually quite difficult i would suggest starting with colored pencils just so you know how you want it Www@QuestionHome@Com

you can start as a half circle than put orange or yellow or sumthin on the top pirimeter then go on and on until u get to the bottom
