Question: Is there a difference between regular paint thinner and artists paint thinner!?

Hardware store paint thinner is generally a lower grade product that contains more impurities than the highly-refined artist-grade thinners!. This is fine for cleaning brushes, but using it to thin artists' paints could cause discolouration in the paint!.

White Mineral Spirits are generally known as "Odourless" thinners and recommended over Turpentine or Aromatic Solvent thinners for people who have a sensitivity to the smell!. Both are equally toxic as they evaporate at the same rate, dispensing toxins in the air (whether you smell them or not)!.

Clean your brushes with whatever you choose, but mix only the good stuff with your paint!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of the time, the only difference is that artist's paint thinner is lower on fumes and odor!. That's about all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The smell and the price!.
