Question: ISO threshold in Nikon D80!?
What is the ISO threshold in Nikon D80 at where noise would start to plague the image!?

I've just switched to D80 from a f-slr of the same brand, which partly brought in my persistence to use only ISO 100!. Soon I realize it could take me no further than ordinary everyday snapshots, i need to consider higher ISO in different place!.

I know higher ISO means noisier image, but is there actually a safety level of ISO speeds where I can at least be rest assured that the image will not be 'noised'!. Or I need to accept truth that such threshold varies in different situation!.!.!.

anyway, noob cameraman writing this, still in the learning phase!.

If possible I would shoot at ISO 400 or less!. Although you can go up to 800 with the D-80, at this point you may notice some noise!. It helps to have the high ISO noise reduction turned on if you are going to be shooting with higher ISO settings!. That can be found in your shooting menu!. The options are normal, low, high, or off!. I would start out with normal then try the high setting!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lower ISO gives you a finer image!. Get too high in ISO and it's a grainy mess!. I generally shoot at 200 with my D40 unless I'm getting fancy or think an 8x10 is in the future!.

My shooting buddy has a D80 and doesn't like to go over ISO 400 if he can avoid it -that's the case for my Rebel XTi too, and any 1st gen 10mp APS-C DSLR!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I start noticing noise at about 800!. But it depends!. Definitely at 1600 no matter what!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
