I don't know!. I do know that a number of my colleagues have used the Nikkor 20 mm lens for years when shooting architectural subjects using a 35 mm SLR!.

Now the hot ticket seems to be the Nikon 14 mm f/2!.8 attached to a 35 mm like a F5 or F6 or the full frame D3

That is if you are not shooting using a 4x5 view camera with either a 65 mm or 90 mm lensWww@QuestionHome@Com

OK, with a name like - playboy_carioca - I have to ask, are you going to college for - studying - or - studding - !?!? These are by far two different words with different meanings, however in college, they both could be true!. !?!?!!

Your question tho!. He most likely said Nikon because it is HIS favorite brand of camera!. A 20mm lens is a 20mm lens, on any name brand of 35mm camera!. The quality of some name brands may show better than on others, but the lens coverage - what they see - will be the same!.

I will have to say tho, a Nikon 20mm lens most likely will be sharper from corner to corner than anyone else's other than Canon, unless you go Leica or find Contax equipment!. Original name brand equipment!.

But no, I do not believe Nikon is that superior to Canon or the other way around, both are superb cameras and offer excellent optics as well, and each has a fine reputation!.!. Just watch your reputation as your - studding around - the college campuss!.!.!.!. ;-)

Well if you have a Nikon camera, you'll need a Nikon lens, if you have a canon camera, you need a canon lens!. There are 3rd party lenses for each mount (canon or nikon)

But I'm assuming he is talking about a nikon camera with a 20mm lens!. Well you'll here some people that are big Nikon or Canon die hards!. For 80% of consumers, there probably isn't much difference (I've used both, I currently use Nikon)

That aside, a 20mm lens is a wide angle lens!. It is best used for landscape or photography where you need a wide field of view (google wide angle lens if you want a more technical explaination) A "Standard" lens for a 35mm camera is usually a 50mm!. Most consumer grade DSLR's will have smaller sensors and 50mm would actually be a slight zoom lens!. If you are doing general photography!.!. I would probalby opt for general use wide angle zoom lens like a 18-105mm That should cover most of what you'll do in a photography class!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have a Canon FD mount(manual focus) 20mm 2!.8 that's about 25 years old!.

In my experience, it's a wonderful lens-far better than I am a photographer!.

In general, the difference between brands, particularly for prime lenses, is not worth splitting hairs over!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

well from what ive heard nikon and canon are both very good brands, idk about nikon being "way" better!. i dont think you could go wrong with either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
