Question: What materials does this artist use!?
I've been working on my art skills, and I'm getting better as far as drawing goes, but my tools for coloring it in are too simple!. I use colored pencils a lot, but it doesn't look too good!. What tools does it look like this artist uses!? Are they difficult to use!? I find myself having trouble using any kinds of paint and making it look realistic!.

It is hard to tell from just looking but i would say oils or acrylics, or maybe gauche ( water soluable but opaque not transparent like watercolors!. The best thing that I can say about using paint is practice, practice , practice!. Paint, paint, paint!. The more you use it the more you learn!. Bob Ross was a good teacher and you can get his books and videos on ebay!. Bill ALexander is also good!. You might be able to find a local art teacher that can teach you other techniques!.Just remember!. "Every artist has his own vision"!.

One thing the I might suggest is soft pastels the kind that looks like chalk but has a much softer, creamier texture!. You can layer colors and you can use your hands or pastel tools to get a velvet-like finish!. You can really work with them to get what you want!. again it takes practice!. You should mat and frame the finished art work!. I don't like to use fixative on pastels!. It makes some of the colors disappear and others don't appear as bright when fixative is used!. All the ones I looked at were oil on canvas or a panel!.

I see one line in your question that might be a clue!. "Coloring it in"!. I don't thing he colors it in!. I think he lays down a background color then raises everything from that!.

The late Bob Ross was, in my opinion, very good at stacking subjects on a canvas!. He has DVDs of some of the classes he did for public television!. Why don't you spring for one or two and watch his technique!. You might change your whole way of looking at a painting!.

Good luck and above all, keep painting!. If you never make a dime it beats hours on a psychiatrist's couch!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love him! I think he uses acrylics and just regular painting utensils (paintbrushes, etc!.)!. I find watercolor easier to work with!. I had trouble at first too, but the more you practice, the easier it will get!. It's also helped me to copy the works of others (giving them credit, of course)!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It tells you underneath the images!. Most are oil paints on canvas, some are on wood though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all, creeeeeeepy stuff!

Secondly, it looks to be oil or acrylic!.

Third!.!.!. well, one and two should be enough!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
