One of the artists greatest tools when painting is the use of "hard" and "soft" edges, which help define the focal point from the background of your work!. This is a pretty good article about hard and soft edges and how to use them to get the effects you want!. http://images!.google!.com/imgres!?imgurl=h!.!.!.

Now, if what you mean is mood as depicted by angular lines vs!. smooth, curving lines, this device uses line to set mood in a a painting!. And yes, smooth, wavy or curvy lines would be more calming and peaceful, and hard, sharp angular lines wold be used to depict change, stress, or anger!. http://www!.brigantine!.atlnet!.org/Gigapal!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think everyone interprets things in a painting differently, but my opinion is smooth curved lines is a journey, but not a hard one, it's a nice gentle transition, peaceful, calm, serene, whereas the sharp lines would mean more of a difficult transition, roughness, frenzied attempts and even cruelness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on what else is in the painting!. You know Munch's painting "The Scream'!? It has lots of curved lines, and it is not soft or gentle!.

Lines have rhythm, direction, weight, movement, and they build up to form groups that have density and produce pattern!.

Curved lines might relate to the female form and to "mother" earth - hills and valleys!.
