Question: Do watercolors need a coating!? I usually work in oils & don't know!.!?
Just used some leftover watercolors & want to be sure therer's nothing else I need to do to them before mounting and framing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, they don't need a coating or varnish!. Watercolors are delicate though and are susceptible to water damage if they get wet!. They are always framed behind glass for this reason!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's up to you!.!.!.!. if you wanted to you can!.!.!. try Daler Rowney Poster and Watercolour Varnish!.!.!. it brightens up the colors too!.!.!. Golden makes one as well!.!.!. or you could use a watercolor sealer from Ampersand called Claybord Fixative, which has a unique nozzle which overlaps smoothly and does not drip!.

Generally, watercolors are not treated!. Anything you do coat your painting with is probably going to change the look!. I strongly suggest you play with sealers on some scrap before you mess with a painting that you like!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It might make your colors stand out more if you use a non yellowing watercolor varnish!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
