Nikon - Nippon Kagaku - Has been around since WWII and made fine optics for the Imperial War Machine then!. During the years of being Occupied by the Allies after WWII they were encouraged to continue their optical development and got into cameras!.

One of the few things Nikon did, which many other camera manufactures didn't do was they made their OWN optical glass and made their OWN lenses!.

The Nikon name came out of a European camera manufacturer's name of Zeiss Icon, a superb camera with excellent optics and Nikon wanted to match or pass them in this area and wanted a name equally as catchy!. Nikon was born!.!.

During the time of the Korean War and early Viet Nam days many a soldier and news paper correspondent would go over to Japan and pick up one of these early Nikon's, range finders still, no SLR's yet, and bring them home with images of extreme quality and sharpness!. The newspapers and world wide reporters had a new camera worthy of their profession and strong enuf to take the pounding given!.

The early cameras had then, what is today, the most popular lens to body mount ever made!. The Nikon F mount!. It hasn't changed in over 50 years!. Sure the body's and lenses have electronic contacts now for AF and such, but the solid metal to metal mount is the same!.

The Nikon F, one the the strongest and toughest SLR cameras ever built was the Holy Grail to many budding armature and pro photographers of the 60's and 70's!. I acquired mine in 1969!. I still have it, and it works just fine!.!.!

Because of the lens mount being so well kept and not made obsolete like many other manufactures did over the years, I can take the same very lens I had back in 1969 and put it on a brand new body today, and I do just that with my Fuji S-5 (a modified Nikon D-200)!. I have meter coupling as well!.!.! Focus is manual tho!.!.

My opinion!.!.!? Like my Harley, I can't find one better and you could never make me change!. They are solid and high quality!. The name alone, like Harley Davidson, has a almost mystical touch to it when others find what ya ride or what camera equipment you have chosen to live with!.

I do NOT have other manufactures of lenses other than Nikon!. While others may be as good, that IS the question!.!.!. 'may' !.!. and I don't wanna fart around buying the lens - again!. I will buy it right, the 1st time and be done with it!.

Today Nikon is not the giant it was!. They were a stand alone corporation, but they were bought out by a larger Corporation called Mitsubishi back in the mid 90's!.!. and much has been scaled back, however, not THAT much!.!.!.

I love mine!. I have 3 D-SLR's all modified Nikon's and 7 SLR film bodies and a slew of lenses, flashes, bellows and other related equipment, all Nikon!. It all fits and I can use 95% or better on my digitals!. I will never change!.!.

I started with Pentax and Minoltas then went to Nikon in the Mid 70's!. Since that time I have had 5 of them ( in fact I still have all 5 and they all work ) I think Nikon is a great company with good service!. I was just reading the other day in the Nikon equipment forum on eyefetch where someone had dropped thier new Nikkor lens!. They sent it to Nikon and it was broken beyond repair!. This was due to dropping it not due to any product defect!. Nikon sold them a new one for half price!. They could have said sorry what bad luck but thats not the type of company they are!. I think they're an amazing company!. They deliver quality products to it's consumers!. And personally I have nothing to hold against them!. Every Nikon product I own had done me justice and I wouldn't go to anyone else!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
