I would suggest a good quality digital SLR camera and you would need a fast shutter setting in order to capture anything from nature!. I use an Olympus E-510 with a good quality zoom lens to give more range!. A tripod or mono pod would help too!.
Taking pictures of birds requires a great deal of patience and time!. It may take hours of quiet observation in order to get the shots you want!.
I find that it is necessary to set up shots by feeding birds and bringing them to you!. Make your own garden a haven for birds and look into what foods are best to put out for the different birds you would like to attract!. If you try to go out and about and trust to luck it may take months before you get anything of any quality!.
There are plenty of nature reserves/parks where it is possible to get decent shots and many of them will have hides in place so that you can watch unobserved!.
Good luck and don't give up too easily!.!.!.!.you will need a great deal of patience!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You might want to start looking toward the sky or maybe up in trees , I hear that is where a lot of birds go!. You should use a camera that takes pictures!. Usually somewhere on the camera is a window that will allow you to look through it and you will see what you want to photograph , once you see the bird in the view square you want to push a button which is usually located on the top of the camera or on the side!.!.!. when you push it it will take a picture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the end you can use any camera you can afford!. Now the distance of how close you get to the birds depends on if you buy a point and shoot, or a DLSR with a telephoto lens!.
To photograph birds, it's best to get a DSLR with a lens (at least)200mm!. I prefer 300mm lens!. (would love bigger)!.

The brand of camera doesn't matter!. It's the lens that matters and of course you the photographer!.
Go to dpreview!.com for reviews on cameras!.

It would help to have a tripod, ( if you can't hand hold a 300mm lens!.)

To find birds, just start looking up in the trees!. Go to any parks, local and state parks!. Put a bird feeder in your back yard!. Birds are everywhere!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You'll need a DSLR with at least a 300mm lens for this and a good strong flash with a flash extender to get those catch lights in their eyes!. A tripod or mono pod will help steady the longer lens!.

Try parks, beaches or preserves as a place to begin!. Look for local birdwatching groups for your local areas good for birding!. Try to cultivate an area in your own yard conducive to birds, as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Look up!.!.!.!.!.!.just joking!.!.!.!.!. look up bird protection areas!. you will need a camera with a zoom lense and a trypod
