A must is a 50 mm 1!.4 or 1!.8!. Once you lay your hands on it you will know why!. The sharpness can't be beat, and is awesome in low light situations!.

Other lenses, which are expensive is the 24-70 mm f 2!.8, and the 70-200 f 2!.8!. I at most use the 70-200 twice during a wedding!. I know other photographers who use it all the time!. It depends on how lazy you are to use your feet to take the picture!.

I can tell you I use the 50 mm 90% of the time!. But it will depend on how you shoot, and even style!. With the 50mm you have more walking to do because it has no zoom, but better images!. Anyway these are the three I would aim for in Nikon!.

If you are starting out, the 50 mm 1!.8 is like $100!. The 1!.5 is like $300!. I'm not sure though with your camera, I think the lenses need a motor, so I think you might have to use the lens in manual focus!. On top of that these lenses will be focusing at a different rate on DX D80 cameras!. Something else to consider!.

I did use the 18-200 lens for my D200 and D300 before!. That is a good all around lens!. It isn't as sharp and good in low light though!. It's another starting option!.

also, the 85 mm 1!.8 prime lens is good (probably a 120mm equiv!. on DX)!. For me its too much zoom on a DX camera, but works good on camera like the D700 and D3!. Good luck though finding the one that works for you!.

A UV filter is good for your lenses to protect them from being scratch!. I don't normally use other filters, except maybe a circular polarizer for outside weddings!. Another cool the I use for experimenting is a cokin filter system!. Too much to explain here on that, just look it up!. Or lastly a star filter for candle shots!. Everything I listed here that I have, D700, D300, Lenses, filters, warranties, cost probably around $9000!. So have fun starting out and working your way up!. By all means, make sure to get a backup camera!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Denise,

The camera you have and the lens that came with it are capable of producing the type of image you want, but only if you are capable of producing the kind of image you want!. That's the bad news!.

The good news is that you can learn how to make images that have the look you want!. There are literally dozens of books on photography out there and almost any of the beginning books will help you along the path from where you are now to where you might want to be!. There is also a lot of information on the Web that can help!.

It's not hard to take better pictures and it doesn't take that long to learn how, but, without putting a little effort into learning the basics of what makes a good image, what you are getting now is all you will ever get!. If that sounds like work, well, there is work involved, but mostly it's fun!.

Wedding photographers use fast large aperture lenses usually an F2!.8 or larger!. This is because most of the work is in low light situations and the large aperture is good in those situations!. That said what it really comes down to is being able to use the camera properly!. The kit lens that came with your camera is more than capable of delivering the results you are looking for!. You have to learn all about proper exposure, depth of field and white balance!. I suggest you take a class in photography if your not satisfied with your abilities or the results your getting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You probably have all the lenses and filters you need!
Wedding professionals make sure that any photos of theirs that you see are fully adjusted for exposure and contrast, color balanced, and cropped!. If you want your photos to look like theirs, you should do the same! Become familiar with Photoshop or any similiar photo editing program and learn all you can about proper exposure with the camera that you have!.

There is no lens or camera that will give you "!.!.!. that professional photographer look!." Professional looking photographs are taken by (surprise!) professional photographers!.

They have gone to school and learned about light, composition, shutter speeds, ISO and f-stops!.

They have worked as an assistant to a professional photographer and continued to study to master their camera, lights and posing techniques!.

So if you are really serious about your photography, enroll in photography classes as soon as possible!. If classes just aren't possible, start by really READING & STUDYING the Owner's Manual for your camera!. Then check out these books:

Buy a large format camera and you literally can't go wrong!. Every photograph of anything will look like a film still! How ever either get your self a digital camera and use photoshop to enhance the photographs!. Or scan each photograph and use photoshop from your camera!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not the camera or the lens (although fast lenses do help) its the photographer who makes the pictures look professional!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honey, it's not all about lens and filters (otherwise anyone could be a professional), it's about skill!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
