A degree usually helps, but the most important thing is that you have creativity and great problem solving skills!. Successful graphic designers are passionate about their profession and are constantly learning about their craft, even after they've been designing for years!. Graphic designers almost always have better than average skills using the basic design software for computers: Adobe Creative Suite applications skills are a minimum!. Many graphic designers specialize in either print, motion or web-based design, but an increasing number of graphic designers can do print, motion and web-based design!. Each specialty has specific knowledge requirements, and you must be very proficient with the software applications that are specific to the field!. Graphic designers are very savvy about trends within their industry!. Good graphic designers have a very thorough understanding of typography, and even a passion for the craft of typography, as it is an essential component of graphic design!. I would rate typographic knowledge and sensitivity almost number one as far as key skills or attributes a good graphic designer should possess!. Client skills are a necessity, too!.!.!.you must always strive to be good at selling your ideas and having constructive dialog with your clients!!! Understanding color theory is usually important, too!. Pay depends on how much skill or experience you have, your ambition level and where you are located!.
