This article says Damien Hirst claims to have "reinvented" the art market!. what does he mean by that!?
he didn't come up with ready-mades, or assistants to do your work for you, so what did he do to "reinvent" the art market!? the actual quote i'm referring to is:
"Hirst has suggested that his reinvention of the art market represents a work of art in itself"

I think it mainly refers to his cutting out art dealers and therefore increasing his own share of the profit!.
I'd say that's not a new idea!. Art coops have been doing that kind of thing for decades, though obviously not at that price level!.
And no, it's not like a stockpile of works by an artist is like a stockpile of oil in a refinery!. Only if the works are ending getting burned up for energy and so completely removed from any future circulation!.

Dang, I thought I had re-invented the art market!.
In that article appears that his re-invention is referring to ripping off collectors and calling that an art form!.
These things go in cycles!. Time will tell, don't you think!?
