Question: What are the different depths of a painting called!. Is there more than background and foreground!?

To cut a long story short, I'm no artist, but have found myself in the position where I need to write like one!. Is there a 'middle ground'!. Are there special technical terms for the top and bottom of a painting!? Anything else I should know!? Thanks in advance :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depth in landscape painting is called aerial perspective!. The top and bottom and middle of a painting are called top, middle, and bottom!.
The farther away objects or features in a painting are, they get smaller, the colors become cooler (blue) and fewer details can be seen!. A painter will sometimes exaggerate these characteristics in order to make objects in the different areas of the painting "jump" out!.
Planes in a painting are fore ground, mid-ground, and distant!. Then there are planes in each of those, near foreground, etc!. Still life paintings also incorporate similar concepts!.

There are foreground, middle ground and background in landscape painting along with horizon lines!. Depth is one of the most important parts of creating a successful landscape painting!. Paintings without a sense of depth seem flat and boring!. Depth helps a painting become three-dimensional and makes the scene look like a window into another world!.

Layering, changing color saturation, and muting texture are the best techniques to use when creating depth!.
