Question: Which camera is better: !?
Canon EOS 12!.2 MP Rebel XSi

or

Nikon D60 10!.2 MP

I am interested in the 'live view' option that the Canon offers; however, I am a beginner and I'm not sure if this option is necessary!. Any opinions/suggestions would be appreciated!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Live view on a DSLR is not like the viewscreen on a point&shoot camera!. It's mainly for when the camera is tripod-mounted or otherwise fixed in place!. You may find it useful for macro-photography; otherwise you will probably never use it!.

As to which is better, that Canon edged out the Nikon in a recent comparison in Popular photography, but it could easily have gone the other way!. You should go to a camera store and actually handle both cameras to see which one feels better to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am sorry to hear that 1) pixel counts on cameras impress you and 2) that you want to transfer the poor technique of looking at an LCD to compose your images that is the only option on most P&S cameras

Until you learn to use a DSLR's viewfinder like all pros and advanced amateurs, using Live View can only cause blurry images due to camera movement when attempting to hold a 2-1/2 pound camera/lens combination at arm's length!.

The only possible time Live View is useful is if you use the camera on a telescope or microscope!. Its major drawback is the huge drain it inflicts on your cameras battery!.

The money you save buying this camera, you can spend on a second lens !.!.!. like the 55-200 mm VR!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
