Question: Painting Title & Artist featured in 1999 Thomas Crowne Affair!?

In the 1999 film The Thomas Crowne Affair, Catherine Banning (Rene Russo) is searching through Crowne's (Pierce Brosnan) house!. In the Master bedroom, over the bed, is a huge painting of 10 "Nymphs" (women in togas) gazing at their reflection in a pool of water!. It looks similar to John William Waterhouse, but isn't!. The paintings shown in films are almost without exception "In the Style of!.!.!.!.!." - the producers would have to pay a fortune to show a museum quality painting by a famous artist!. So film companies employ an artist to imitate a certain style or imagery, or else turn to companies whose business it is to hold a stock of look-alike artwork which they can buy or loan!. From your description it sounds as if the painting of women in togas in this film is in the style of Waterhouse or perhaps Ingres-- and would fall into this category!. !. Www@QuestionHome@Com
