hi louise,

in a digital camera (and monitors, and cell phones, tvs, etc!., etc!.!.!.) megapixels are image sensor elements, and a single megapixel actually is one million pixels, so yours is, obviously, 9 million!.

very briefly, the more pixels available, the better the quality of the photo--just like on a high-def tv--the more lines of resolution, the better the picture!.

there's a whole bunch of math involved, but unless you're talking a tiny photo, a photo taken with a 2mp camera can't possibly match one taken by a 9mp camera!. and even in that very tiny photo the differences likely would be visible!.

the images produced are measured in bytes-and your 9 megapixel camera, of course, will produce that many more bytes per photo than one coming from a 2mp camera!.

now to be fair, in a 3 x 5 photo, side-by-side, the two cameras on each one's finest respective settings would produce "comparable" photos!. but you still should see the difference!.

but then blow each one up to 5 x 7, 8 x 10 and on and on, and the 2 mp camera's photos wouldn't be worth printing, while yours would still be rather fine!.

here are a couple of websites that might give you some additional ammunition:

wikipedia also has lots of good info on the subject!. sorry i can't send you a photo from a 2mp camera!.!.!.!.mine is 5!. but the bottom line is, your friend is dead wrong!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You won't be able to see the difference on your computer screen since the computer screen views at only 72 pixels per square inch!. You'll have to view the difference by comparing the images via printed picture from the same printer!. And even then you may not be able to see the difference with your naked eye!.
