if you are a pro or want to be a pro, there is no alternative, free or other wise !.!.!. there is Photoshop Elements for under $100 that has nearly 80% of the features pro photographers use

As already mentioned, Photoshop Elements is about 80% of the full version, and can typically be bought for under $100!. I think Paint!.NET is more than enough for most amateur photographers, and it's totally free!. The GIMP is really ugly and hard to use - I wouldn't recommend it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
