Often when you cannot capture something in a drawing it is because the mind interferes - subconsciously we think we know well the object we are sketching and we stop looking properly!. Drawing is really about looking, anyone can make a mark on a piece of paper but it is the looking that helps place these marks to look as the object we see!.

A little tip that i still use is to turn the drawing or painting upside down, this stops the mind presuming that it knows what it is seeing, and somehow the flaws and bits where we went wrong become immediately obvious!.

If you are drawing from a photograph then upturn the photo aswell as your drawing paper and see if you can draw upside down, i know it sounds crazy but it really does work!

also realise that there are no lines in life, so sometimes when we try to draw the outline of a nose what we are actually trying to draw is the curve of a receding surface, so it might work well to work in patches of shading rather than with a line to define!.

I will put a link below that can give you some visuals on this, hope it helps :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com
