Using the Channel Mixer (as Antoni suggested) or even Desaturate is better than using the simple Grayscale option !.!.!. simply because it allows you to have more control over the final image!.

Using Grayscale simply throws stuff away!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

the best way in photoshop is to open the channel mixer, select monochrome then adjust the RGB levels till you get the balance you desire

Open it in Photoshop, choose IMAGE, and choose GREYSCALE!.
