Question: Photoshop experts, help me out please!!?
I drew and scanned something into photoshop!. It is a simple black and white drawing!. How do I place this onto a colored background without having a white trim behind and around the black line drawing!? There has got to be a better way than quick selection/magic wand right!?

Thanks so much!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Open your 'layers' palette!.
Click on the word 'background' to make it into a layer (All you do is either accept layer 0 or you can rename it)!.

Next go to Select and then to 'Colour Range'
Just click on the white background!. All your whites will be seledted!. Hit the delete button!.

Now you can place the black lines on top another image or a plain background (Either copy and paste or have both images open and just use your move tool)!.

You are right, the magic wand has got to be one of the least developed tools in all the generations of Photoshop that I have used!. If you take your scan and place it as a separate layer on top of your background and change the layer mode to darken or multiply the white will disappear leaving only the dark lines!. If you then want to add colour to the black and white, you can then add a new layer between the two and paint on that, examine the differences between multiply and darken when you do this, they are quite small so you will have to zoom in!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The image should be true black and white for best results!. If you scanned a black and white image as a color image, you'll get fine shades of gray!. Increasing the contrast under Image / Adjustments / Brightness and Contrast will help with this!.

Make certain your image layer isn't the background!. This will allow you to create a transparent background!. With your black and white image use the magic wand, uncheck Contiguous and Anti-alias!. Click any white area to select all the white areas!. CTRL X to clear what's selected!.

Create a new layer below the image, and fill it with any color you want!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it's a 'line drawing', meaning it is not greyscale, it is truly black and white, you can use 'Threshold' (Image/Adjustments/Threshold) to separate it into two tones, black and white!. NOW use the Magic Wand and it will work much better!. You might have to do some minor trimming by hand with the eraser tool, but probably not even that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
