It is hard when a friend asks your opinion on a photo that you know they worked hard on an you pretty much see as crap!. My suggestion: Tell her that you think the composition in strong, you like the layers!.!.!.that the shallow depth of field (blurry foreground) didn't read well (it had you scanning the flowers behind and then you notice her walls) but that you think she is talented, the lighting was starkly creative!.!.!.!.you may want to add that you will be exited to see how she grows as an artist!.!.!.then ASK HER FOR A COPY (warm fuzzy guarantee)!. Here's the thing: If she is just starting out the best think you can ever do is follow her work and encourage her to keep growing!.!.!.(in a few years lay down the hammer) You don;t have anything to loose by being a softie!. A good friend tells the truth yes!.!.!.but also is compassionate!. In this case!.!.it's not a life altering situation so, be kind!. p!.s!. the photo is weak!.!.!.in my subjective opinion!.!.but it is art right!? But for the first time, it's alright!.
