Question: What D300 lens do i need!?!?!?
Ok I have just purchased a Nikon D300 and am getting driven insane with the lens decisions!
I have 3 lens's in my collection already a Nikon Nikkor 35-105mm F3!.5 - 4!.5 Macro AF Lens, a Nikon 18-55mm f/3!.5-5!.6G ED AF-S DX and a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5 6G ED AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor lens!.
Now the big question! Are these lenses adequate!? mainly I will be taking photographs at weddings and other events, however my love lies with macro and landscape photography!. I am new to the Nikon family and don’t know what the lenses are like on a whole so if you would be so kind to steer me in the direction of what I’m looking out for in the Nikon selection and if there are any lenses that a Nikon wedding photographer should not be without i would be very grateful!.

Thanks

Your current lenses will get the job done but they are inferior to what you'd expect to see in the hands of a pro wedding photographer (and on a D300)!. Here's some obvious choices!.!.!. it's pretty easy really; get the expensive stuff:

For weddings, the Nikon 17-55mm f/2!.8 ($1200) or on a budget the Tamron 17-50mm f/2!.8 ($420)!.

You didn't mention a flash!. A Nikon SB800 ($315)

See how that goes and perhaps add a 50mm f/1!.4 for emergency low light use (about $200 used)!. The f/1!.4 version is good wide open; the cheaper f/1!.8 version needs to be stopped down and hardly adds anything to an f/2!.8 zoom!.

Perhaps a Nikon 85mm f/1!.4 ($1025) or a cheaper f/1!.8 ($365) for formals!. Or if you use your 55-200mm a lot, skip the dedicated portrait lens and upgrade the 55-200mm to a Nikon 70-200mm f/2!.8 ($1625)!. Third party 70-200mm f/2!.8 zooms cost around $900!.

After all of that pays for itself, for landscapes the Nikon 12-24mm ($915)!.

For a dedicated macro, first decide on the desired focal length!.

The retail prices I quoted were all from B&H!.

(I use a Nikon D200 + 17-55 and although I have shot the occasional wedding for friends - I have one tomorrow - I'm not a pro photographer!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

you have an advanced amatuer camera and as such, you should mate it with some nice glass!. the lenses should have been considered prior to the purchase of the camera and a budget worked out as such!. with the lenses you have, almost any digital camera made in the last five years will produce the same image quality!. to get the full performance from your 300, a pro lens is required; anything from 2!.8 or faster!. Sounds like you have a good start on lenses!. Certainly enough to keep you going while you are learning the camera!. If you don't want to change lenses during the shoot you should look at an 18 -200 just for convenience!.Make sure you have UV filters for each Get a good strobe like the SB800 or better yet 2 of them!. A good tripod for group portraits!. And I like a prime lens for portait work but thats not a got to have!. I never go to a wedding without extra batteries or my MB-D10 battery packWww@QuestionHome@Com

i have a d40 with a 18-50 mm and a 55-200 mm and it is insane a lot of times i have to switch lens at events or places!. with that said i am planing on buying a nikon 18-200 mm to solve that problem that would help you a lot too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

These lenses would be good for most situations!. However if you plan on doing weddings as a professional you will need some faster lenses!. A good choice would be a 24-70mm F2!.8!. Another good choice would be a 50mm F1!.4!. With low light situations look for lenses in the F2!.8 or larger range!.

For the landscapes you need a 12-24mm wide angle!. Your other lenses are not wide enough!.

For macro you have a few choices!. I believe there are 3 Nikon macro lenses that would be good!.
60mm F2!.8
105mm F2!.8
180mm
My choice would be the 105mm!. It will give you a bit more working distance than the 60mm though not as much as the 180mm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
