Question: Ok, correct me if I'm wrong!.!.!.!?
But just because I chose to do subjects in school like Visual Arts, 4 units of English and 4 Units of History, does that mean I'm unintelligent compared to someone who does maths or science!?!?
I had to do an art Major Work and I got 49/50 for it in the HSC!. I chose to do video art, and posted it on youtube!. While I have no problem at all with people criticising my work or not liking it, I DO have a huge problem when they say that because I do art, I should be practically spat on because I didn't do something "intelligent" like maths!. Coming up with a completely original idea and concept (last time I checked) IS RATHER CHALLENGING!. Writing about 8 art history essays that are about 18 pages long each in an exam and coming out with 98% ISN'T BAD!. I'm so ******* sick of people putting artists down!. I don't go bagging mathematicians because I don't enjoy it!. I think that people of each profession and whatever do worthwhile jobs, whether an individual personally likes it or not!. How boring would the world be if ALL we learned about was ONE thing!?!?

I replied to her message saying my views (basically what I communicated above, but with a lot more outrage), and they reply with:
"the last time i looked the likelyhood of an artist actually becoming succesful is a lot less than someone who has skills in using their brain!. oh wow i can draw a line and make up some bullshit as to how it creates meaning in the world using the conceptual framework!. give me a ******* a break, a two year old could do that!. you sit in a class room and use paint and gay *** materials to make something that is suppose to be the equivalent of others hard work in REAL subjects!. please!. and you think thats not going to weigh you down!? oh yeh getting an A in art is really gonna get you on your way to uni to become something succesful!.!.like selling paintings on the street corner like every other striving artist!.
everyone knows that art is for two types of people; lazy dumbasses and those without the real intelligence to do intellectually stimulating subjects that will get them places!. good luck with that :D!"

ahahaha ok!.!.!.i didn't read everything, but i got what you meant!.
i was laughing too because i was on the other side, doing the maths and science and I HAD people sneering at me because of it!! it was soo silly, it was a new school (my final 2 years) so ppl hadn't known how i was before, but u certainly will get the negative reaction from BOTH WORLDS!. not just the sciences denigrating the arts, but the art ppl can also denigrate the science!. it's good to not be like that!.
BUT---- the people who said that stuff and treated me that way was, straight to the point bluntly put, jealous!. jealous that i could do someting they THOUGHT they couldn't!.
so some of the reaction ppl do to you could be because of that i'm sure!. as you mentioned, you do well in it :)
and of course, NO it doesn't mean you're dumb at something else, or in this case "intelligent" things just because you're good at "arty" things and VICE VERSA!!
just stick to your guns!. you're only going to run amuck if you listen to their pretentious and arrogant!.
it's a very pretentious attitude for anyone to act like that, even ignorant as if you look at some of the world's most talented ppl, like leonardo da vinci or michaelangelo, even go look at their bio if you don't believe me but they were good at maths and science and inventing etc!.!.!.!.what would they have become to if they listened to ignorant, pretentious ppl who came along and told them, oh, you can't calculate this because you're good at something else!?!?!?
when i was young, i always wanted to create things whether it was a drawing, a book (making a book out of different papers) or a new hairstyle for my dolls lol, but as i grew up my parents wanted me to follow the academic route so i took that!. and ppl thought she probably can't be creative etc just because i was doing the sciences!. which was so not true but sometimes it got to me the way they were pigeon holing me, and in a way, i'm happy to hear that someone is being honest that ideas can be a challenge to come up with(i know that too)!. loll yeh i was in your same situation but the other way!. but i know i'm capable of both, not because i'm "me"(well in the end i went to the interests i had before i was "moulded" so im in a design degree now) but the limits of our learning potential is so underestimated!.!.!.!.!.!.believe that because it's true!.
and OMG - who said that!!?! art RULES!!!! i would farr prefer being creative and freedom of expression and whoever siad that are really missing out!.
or they're not sensitive to aesthetics or appreciate color and get a high from !.!.!.!.!.they're not artistic like you!?!?!?!?
but i'm going on now, NO WAY it doesn't make you dumb!. and i've been there getting side tracked by comments like that and i'm telling you just STICK TO YOUR GUNS and you'll be giving yourself a huge pat later on for being strong and maintaining your integrity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
