In physics, color is a factor of what part(s) of the total color wavelengths of white light is reflected into the eye!.

White is ALL the wavelengths reflected!. Black is NO wavelengths reflected!.

So, in terms of color, it is like the entire range of of a volume control, from zero to full volume!. Whatever "energy" is behind the volume control is still there!. The volume control only controls how much of that sound "energy" is released to the ear!. In a stereo, even if the control knob is down to zero, the music still plays!. You just can't hear it!.

So, in color, black is a color that does not reach the eyes!. It is still there, but, the eye only detects the black!. Unlike the answers that state that black is the absence of color, it is not so!. Total darkness is the absence of color!.

But, physics aside, when discussing what IS or is NOT color, when I go to a paint store and look at the selection of colors, I can clearly read the labels and I see reds, yellows, blues, blacks and whites!. If some clerk asks me what color I want, and I say "black," he comes back with a can of black paint!. I'm not going to tell him that black is not a color!.

What about when someone adds black to another color, and it turns darker!. If black was the absence of color, wouldn't the other color just become more transparent!? Of course not!. It just turns darker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes black is a color, yes white is a color, yes gray is a color!.
Black: Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light!. Sometimes black is described as an "achromatic color", but in practice it can be considered a color, as in expressions like "black cat" or "black paint"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We call black and white "colors," but they're actually shades because both black and white are found at the opposite ends of every color scale: red, blue, green, yellow, all of that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you want to get technical about it im pretty sure black is not actually a color as it is no color, not sure about whiteWww@QuestionHome@Com

Black is the absence of Light!. White is all colors combined!. Grey is some where in the middle I suppose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Black, White & Grey are all put into the category of shades, not colors!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
