Here's a bare 60W bulb used to back up the on-board flash!. There's still some shadow, but that's what you get!. This is NOT a good example of "how to do it," but I'm just showing you the results with a common light bulb, which seems to be what you are asking about!.

Yeah, Alison you can use a small lamp just make sure to light the back area (such as if you lighting a person near a wall!. Make sure to light the hell out of the wall) that way the person separates from the background!. also if possible to get rid of those shadows my photography teacher told us to move the light up in air and aim it down so the shadows are on the floor!. Last but not least if non of this helps add some diffusion on the light such as Opal Frost diffusion gel, it's a gel professionals use to soften the light so shadows aren't so unflattering!. If you google the name of the gel you'll notice it resembles wax paper (hint, Hint)!. Hopes This helps you out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to match the color temperature of your various light sources!. If your main light is a strobe and your white balance is set for that, using incandescent bulbs for fill will make the shadows look yellowish!. On the other hand, if the white balance is set for incandescent, flash will look quite blue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
