During his lifetime, Rodin produced versions of his works in clay, plaster, marble and bronze, and frequently had his assistants enlarge, reduce or reproduce his pieces depending on the requirements of patrons or of a particular design!. He would start off with drawings or sketches!. His plaster sculptures were often the last pieces (or stage) which were actually touched by the hand of Rodin!.
He mantained a large workshop, viewing sculpture as a collaborative proces, employing highly trained plaster casters, carvers and founders, as well as studio assistants, to turn his original models into a finished work!. Many young sculptors later to become famous worked for him
