Question: What do you think of my photoshop skills!? Should I start shooting in raw!?

I would have answered this question the same way with or without looking at your pictures!. But I did look at your pictures first and think you have a knack for the editing side that I think will only get better with time!.!.!.

As far as your skills your off to a great start except the 2nd picture was alittle too dark and hard to see!.!.!.

You asked, should I shoot RAW or not essentially!.!.!.

My response is ALWAYS shoot RAW!. Here is why!.!.!. from RAW you can tweak little things here and there to affect contrast, color, lighting ect that will make your picture much more technically sound PRIOR to your "editing/photoshoping" fun stuff!. Once you get your picture technically sound your end result after the fun will be that much better!. The beauty of it is you can always come back to the same exact picture you start with and do it all over again in a new form and get the same results you want each time!. Unlike with a JPEG image!. Each time you make a change to a JPEG image the overall composition changes and if you want to keep progressing you need to save frequently to keep it because without saving you make a mark you dont like and poof your back to square one again (depending on the oops factor) also your limited to the changes you can make as compared to the RAW format!.

I used to shoot in both RAW and JPEG formats, which in the beginning I thought was very coolr my camera allowed me to do that!. Now JPEG is a waste of time and memory card space!. I shoot strictly RAW come home download and save for editing whenever, however, and as frequently as I want!.!.!.!. Hope this helpsWww@QuestionHome@Com

If your equipment is capable of capturing RAW, yes absolutely!.

Bear in mind the added space you'll need on your memory card, computer HD, and the software you'll need to convert!.

RAW files are the digital equivalent of a negative, are not compressed, and are a "lossless file format" , 'nuff said!.

On your work, come up with something original!. ( I know you didn't ask, but!.!.!. )

A Quick note to Froggy!.!.!.you do not lose image quality when OPENING a JPEG file, you lose it after RE-SAVING, especially multiple times, just for the record!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You do pretty well with photoshop!. That being said, I would shoot RAW!. There is more information in each RAW file, than in a jpg file, you can do so much more, and see so much more fine detail in your images!. also the RAW files are lossless!. Each time you open a jpg file, you lose a little something!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
