Question: Model asking for a CD of photos after photo shoot for printing!.!.!.what should I do!?
I did a photo shoot, we exchanged services, she modeled for me for free and I shot her for free!. We agreed that I would email her the photos as digital files as I edited them!. Now she is asking for a CD of the images because her mom wants prints!. Should I just be nice and make a CD of the current images I have edited and have her pick it up!? Because I haven't gone through all of them as I shot over four hundred, and I like a lot of them!. How many should I put on the disk 5 or so, 'cause it's a lot of work for editing and things!? Should I charge her or not!? Or should I say no, I'll print them!.!.!.I don't know the standard procedure, as I am a new photographer--just getting out there!. But I'm told I'm good so I guess I am lol!. And yes a signed agreement is involved to protect my photos!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is one of the things you learn as you go along!. If you promised digital files to the model, then it is your obligation to supply them!. Burning a CD is the best way!. For now, you can take what you have and burn a full CD and let the model have that!. Be sure that they are high enough resolution to allow the model to print them properly!.

The next time you negotiate a contract, remember to specify the number of shots you will supply the model!. You don't want the model to see them all because some of the pics are going to be bad!. There is no way around that!. And also specify the rights you retain and the model retains!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your agreement was time for prints!. Make the cd and put the best shots from the shoot on it!. She is wanting her prints so she can show her book!. But you have the photos!. I would also e-mail the digital files as you agreed!. You may want her to model for you again!. Business is about maintaining relationships and keeping your promises!. If you don't you are not going to last long in this business!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why such stress!? Honestly, all you did was take some pics!.!. Maybe you can give her a CD of the pre-edited shots, you wont really be out much would you!? Maybe mom shows them around and you pick up a little business!.!. I think you could do that to help you get your name out or whatever!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gene,

As others have stated, you are obligated to provide ALL, not just some of the images to the model!. Just because you hold copyright, doesn't mean you can screw the model in a TFP agreement!.

And just so you know, w/ out a signed model release, the images are useless for you as well, as they cannot be used for any commercial purpose w/out an appropriate model release!. So why don't you burn a disk, put a stamp on it and send it off, or you may find yourself learning a little something about the legal aspects of a photography business!.

But I suppose as long as people have told you your good!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
