Question: Please critique my scenic photos

1) Lake Erie 3 -- Very nice composition!. A little more light on the foreground tree would be nice!. This could be done via SUBTLE fill flash, or a reflector!.

2) Lake Erie 2 -- Not a big fan of this one!. The point where the rocks & tip of grass meet (near the center) create a source of tension!. If this is what you were going for then ignore my comments!. also, the upper right sky holds too much weight because of the negative space & bright value!.

3) Admiring the View -- nice as a snapshot!. I notice you like to place the horizon in the center!. It is usually better to place it at a third quadrant (google "rule of thirds composition" if you do not understand), but in this case there is enough clouds to work!. However, due to the brightness of the sky, it pulls the viewer's eyes away from the main subject -- the girl "admiring the view!." Dodging the foreground in printing would make the girl more prominent!.

4) No Trespassing -- I'm not a real fan of this!. Once again, the main subject (the sign) is a little overwhelmed by the bright sky!.

5) Fellow artist!.!.!. -- I like this one a lot! I guess you do know your rule of 3rds!. The horizon & the placement of the subject is relatively following this rule!. The only problem is that the print is flat!. Bump up the contrast in the foreground, or print it lighter -- as well as dodge the artist a little!. This will make the eye immediately rest on the artist (vs!. being drawn to the bright sky again)!.

6) Maybe some!.!.!.!. -- not really feeling this one!. Once again, horizon close to dead center w/ nothing in the sky to hold you!. also all of the horizontal lines bother me being that they are not parallel or intersecting within the visible space -- grass, bench, fence & ocean!.

7) What a Nice!.!.!. -- My eye is actually drawn to the person in the background!. Try printing the foreground lighter, & bump up the contrast in the foreground!.

8) Tree people -- Nice angle!. I would have included the second eye though!.

9) Time to go -- Good idea!. Try cropping your print to lessen the amount or eliminate the tire in the foreground!. The brightness of the glare is distracting & competes for your attention!.!.!. Actually, I think all this shot needs is a tighter cropping!. Nice contrast & great "moment"!.

Keep up the good work!
