Looks pretty good already!.

Few tips:
1) Don't overdo the teeth!. Those lines should be light and blurry or they will stick out!.

2)Shade sooner!. The lips should be patches of shade!. that way you can adjust the shape much better!.

3) Take a soft pencil and work on the eyes Get them as dark and expressive as the photograph!. If you leave them that light in this stage you will never be sure you got them right!.

4) Take your drawing and the photo to a mirror and watch them both in it!. You get a fresh perspective on what's missing!.

5)Get some transparent paper!. Use that to trace your mom's face!. Just the outlines, no shading!. You now have a 'sketch' that will help you guide where 'everything' should go!. You don't have to 'translate' to drawings any more so it is easier to see where and if you have to adjust lines!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Shading--particularly the face!. Don't make the lines of the lips and eyes so definite!. Blur them out with some shading, because if you look at an actual photo of a human face--we don't have single fine black lines outlining our facial features!. The shading will bring forth the face 3-dimensionally--and that makes the difference between something that can seemingly jump out at you, and something that's a simple picture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think it looks pretty good already, no need to change anythingWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think its the mouth too, though it looks good, the face on your mother seems to be more "outlines" then anything, which gives the affect of a cartoon more then a portrait!. What I would do is erase the outer lines of her lips & fill in the space with a more solid shading, squint your eyes while looking at the photo, notice you don't see the outlines of her lips, just shapes!. also teeth can be pretty hard, try a trick, slightly erase some of the teeth lines, then they wont look so prominent!. & darken her eyes also, but remember to leave some highlights in the eyes, if you notice in most photographs there is a tiny white spot in both eyes, inside the iris, when you do this in a drawing it gives more of a realistic feel!. Check out the links below!. But you really did a good job, I'm sure they will love it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Atsuko_Chan is so right!. It really is about shading!. You know, though,, when I look at it while it looks like your mother's right eye (on our left) is in the right place, it looks bigger in the drawing than in the photograph!.

Which leads me to another suggestion: the only structurally important feature it really looks like you've spent a lot of time on is her nose!. I find that when I have the cheeks and the chin the mouth but also the eyes are much easier to place!. And I mean the cheeks from the inside to the outside!. Think about the form first, then the face!. It may just be the reproduction of an unfinished drawing but I can't see any form beyond the features -- which MOSTLY lie on ON TOP OF the forms!. Work from the center out, is what I've been told and find myself telling other people, but it should be work from the inside out!. I recognize this can pose a problem if you don't want it to be too dark -- but you also don't want to get the forms wrong!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
