Question: Software to reduce size of JPEG files and add black frame!?
Hi, there!

I am looking for an easy-to-deal software (better if free) that can allow me to reduce the size of a JPEG file while adding a black frame on all four sizes!. Let me be more specific!. Let's say that I have a JPEG file that occupies 100% of the screen!. Let's also say that I want to reduce the JPEG file to 75% of its original size; this would also mean adding 25% of a black frame surrounding the reduced 75% original JPEG file on all four sizes!. Then, my full screen will be composed of the 75% reduced JPEG plus the 25% black frame!. By the way, to be more precise, the resulting full frame consisting of the 75% reduced original file plus the new 25% black frame is actually a new JPEG that contains the reduced JPEG and the black frame JPEG!. The sizes of 75% reduced file and 25% black frame are used as examples only, for any other combinations ought to be possible!. Before I close, please let me emphasize that I am looking for a software that can do this automatically (or semi)!.

I was doing alright right up until you said automatically!.

Most programs have the ability to increase the canvas size, using your currently selected background color to fill in the new dimensions and centering the original image!.

For example, Photoshop Elements (cheap), you could resize a 4"x6" 300dpi image to 3" x 4!.5", then increase the canvas size back to 4" x 6", which would do what you want!. You could also do this the other way around: increasing the canvas size, then resizing down to your desired total size!.

I'm sure this can be done in Gimp (free at gimp!.org) or one of the online photo editing sites, too!. They do enough free advertising here, so just use your favorite search engine to look for "online photo editing!."

A lot of the online photo printing shops also have the ability to add a black border, but I don't think it'll be as large as you want!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

there may be may a program with ability to adjust to parameters, some may only come with camera and printers, keep searching,
