Some rather AMAZING photos can be taken with crap cameras, and plenty of crappy photos are taken with AMAZING cameras!. What do you mean by "actual photography cameras"!? Do you mean a film camera!? Digital!? An automatic or an SLR!? You need to decide whether you want a camera that has a lot of automatic features or whether you want one with manual settings, or both!.Www@QuestionHome@Com First, cameras do NOT take "amazing" pictures!. A person knowledgeable about photography and skilled in the use of the camera does!. So don't expect a new camera to suddenly transform you into a competent photographer!. I'll second the suggestion to buy the Olympus Stylus 850SW!. Since dropping and drowning are the leading killers of digital cameras, the 850SW overcomes them!. Its waterproof to 10' and shockproof to as 5' drop!. Plan to take some time to actually READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for the camera!. Learn every setting and feature and when and how to use them!. These books will also help: "Hands-On Digital Photography" by George Schaub "How Digital Photography Works, Second Edition" by Ron White I'm also a fan of photography magazines!. My personal favorite is Shutterbug But there are several to choose from!. A point and shoot or a slr!? There are many cameras that are pretty crappy, but there are also great cameras that have someone behind them taking crappy pictures!. You can check to see what is in your price range and then check out the cameras on this website!. Many people think it is all about the megapixels!. However, that can be a misconception!. One also needs to consider the size photos they think they may want to print!. An 8 megapixel is fine, but if the sensor doesn't allow a photo larger than a 5x7, then you can be in a pickel when you need that 8x10!. You can take the same brand of camera (canon, nikon, hp, sony) and compare 3 styles with different megapixels and see pretty close if not the same result for standard size prints up to an 8x10!. Don't be sucked into paying more for a 10 megapixel camera just because it is 10!.
