Yes, just to add to the first answer, H stands for "hardness" and B stands for "blackness!." The harder graphite makes a lighter mark; the softer makes a darker, or "blacker" line!. #3 is pretty hard and therefor pretty light, though you can also make a finer point on it than you can with a softer pencil, and for certain purposes, a lighter more defined line is what you want!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes, it's an H grade pencil!. They are the hardness grades!.
