There are acouple different ways you could try!.

First of all if the paper isn't too thick you could use "graphite/transfer paper" this paper is taped onto the back of the piece you want to trace (this paper should be at your local art store)!. Then on top of the piece you wish to trace onto!. After it's secured (so it doesn't slip around) Trace over your art with a hard pencil, if the paper isn't too thick the lines will be transferred to the paper beneath it!. I think this is similar to what you had in mind!. You could achieve similar affects by putting graphite onto the back of your art (best done with graphite sticks since you need to have enough graphite on the back to trace the whole image)!. Then simply tape it onto the piece beneath and trace your art with a hard pencil!. This method works well, but if you don't put enough graphite on the back you could miss some areas in the transfer process!.

Another method that will definitely work if the above doesn't is to bring your artwork to a place and to photocopy it at 100%, the paper that it will come out on will definitely be thin enough to trace!. You can also usually choose a larger paper to copy onto (I think "legal size")!. Then simply tape the pieces together (if it's that large) and trace with a light box or even against a window with alot of sun :)

If I think of another way I'll update the post!. But I'm confident both of these solutions are the best, and the photocopy will definitely work!.
