I think a Nikon D40 would fit the bill and it is an excellent camera!. You will also want to invest in a telescopic lens and some filters which will all easily put you over your budget! But start small, learn your camera and you'll find what works best for you and what gadgets you can't live without!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
