Question: Film Developing Question!?
I want to develop slide film (aka color reversal film or transparency film) at a walgreens or a jewel osco!. Can they cross process this film!? If I tell them to develop it like negative film will they have a problem!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Slide film is E6 - negative is c-41!. They are two completely different processes and cannot be interchanged without contamination or both chemicals and equipment!. My source - me!. I worked in a photo lab and a new person didn't check the film and it was a mess to clean up!. They can send the film out to be processed or you can find a photo shop who will do it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some labs don't know how to deal with this!. They may be afraid of contaminating their chemistry, which isn't true!. If you ask when they change over their chemistry, they might be willing to cross process your film on the day before or so!. Ask!. I've heard some will work with you, some will not!. If they won't, there are mail order labs that can cross process!.

If you can't find a local drugstore lab that will work with you, check out some of the other mini-labs around!.

If that doesn't work, find the lab your local professionals use!. Most pro-labs have no problem with cross processing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You cannot develop slide film on a c-41 negative developer, and if you ask them to process it through like negative film - it simply won't work and you'll end up with no photos!. Visit a proper camera shop and they should be able to do it there, or be connected with a company that does it for them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Take it to a pro lab!. Some will see that it is E-6 and still process it as such!. Others simply won't do it because it messes with their chemistry!. The pro labs that cross-process usually wait until the chemicals are almost spent in the machine, then do all of their cross-processing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
