I have the nikon d60 and like you am kinda new to this!. Nikons produce really good cameras and i would recommend the d60 to you without any thought!. If you don't care about pixels, the d40 i believe is about 6!.2 pixels and is a little more basic than the d80 which is 10!.2 pixels i believe and has a few more options!. The nikon d60 took the spot of the nikon d40x!. The d60 is the between model of d40 and d80 the d60 has 10!.2 pixels, protects your lens with auto lens cleaner/duster, and alot more options that you can take advantage of once you get to know the camera!.

Nikons are very easy to use!. The hardest thing for me was to put the strap on lol!. Get a nikon and you wont be dissatisfied!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have only been in photography for 45 years and am, therefore, still learning!. I would not buy a camera just because it is suggested by someone on Yahoo answers!. I would go to a good camera store that sells several different brands and play with them all!. do they feel right in your hands!? Is the price right, or am I going to have to really go into the hole to buy it!?

There are not enough differences between the brands to spit!. Though some same name brand means everything, it really means nothing in photography at this time unless you are going to the ridiculous of expense

Cameras when I started were not disposable as they are today!. I am still shooting cameras 40 years old and getting very good results!. That will not happen with the digitals!. If you purchase a camera today, it will be obsolete within a year within the same brand!. You spend anywhere between $450 and $1500 now and your camera is worth only a fraction of that when the new model comes out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello! I am newer to photography as well! I have and SLR (http://www!.amazon!.com/Canon-Digital-10-1!.!.!. It sounds like this might be more than you are looking for, but the quality is FANTASTIC, anyone can use this camera in auto and get amazing photos!. My sister didnt want something as big or expensive as an SLR and she got this (http://www!.amazon!.com/Olympus-SP-570UZ-D!.!.!. I has a few manual options but is much less confusing and cheaper!. It also takes great photos!. I'd also recommend any of the other cameras in the olympus sp500 series as well as the canon ELPH line!. In general, you'll get the best quality camera and pictures from a camera COMPANY (ie not Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic!.!.all TV and small appliance brands)!. Try Canon, Olympus, Fiji, Nikon etc!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nikon's are great!. I have the D300, D200, and D70s and I love them all!. I've heard really good things about the D40 which is a relatively inexpensive SLR!. Although, if you're looking for a point & shoot I'm not much help :(
Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's going to have to be a DSLR or it won't look professional!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
