I half-heartedly agree with you!.

You need skill, definitely, in order to catch the lighting perfectly, but just not a lot!.

Basically, you need

1!. To know what type of camera function to use

2!. To know what angle to shoot from!.

But the thing is, dude, it's harder finger painting!. So yeah, I guess it should be considered a minor-art!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have a misconception here!. Many shots are set up!. Most portraits a lot of thought goes into the posing and whats called a facial analysis to make sure the photo is a flattering image of the model!. Camera angle, height, and the use of lights come into play here!. Many landscapes the photographers has waited for hours or even days until the lighting was just right!. Interesting compositions don't just happen! also camera setting come into play to make the image interesting, depth of field(f/stop), shutter speed, to use flash or not to use flash!. How to expose properly, say for instance a white wedding gown next to a black tuxedo, how to expose for that! Waaay more than point and shoot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First you must see the art of something to photograph!.
Then decide which angle is best for the capture!.
Important also to think how the image will be perceived by others and ask yourself why do I want to achieve the making of this image!? Shooting from your heart and soul, using creativity to your maximum ability!. Creating something seen by you and others as art!. This is one reason why photography is considered art!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know I'll catch flak for admitting this, but since it can take hundreds of hours for me to complete a piece, I will say that it does sometimes seem easy for photographers!. You take one picture, the next thing you know, you reproduce it 50 times for 150 dollars each!.

However, I also know that I have taken a BUNCH of photos in my time, and I have taken about 11ty billion crappy ones!. And I also know that I have seen several photos that really affected me, even if they were able to reproduce it a million times!.

I think what you're paying for isn't the actual photograph, but that rare case where the photographer found something gorgeous and amazing in a boring event that everyone else would miss!. That's why the price is so high for a really good print; you have to sift through so much to get there!.

But I think it is very very rare to find this, btw!. But when you do it's amazing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

photography is the art of finding beautiful things around you!.

drawing/painting is the art of creating things that you can't find!.

or if you like to draw realism that's the same thing as photography, just no camera involved!.

there are a lot of good pictures that are inspiring, and show that the world isn't all just a bad place and there are good things to find in everything!.

i, myself love to draw and paint!.
but some poeple find photography as their passion!.

ps!. anything can be considered "art"
it's a very versitile term
dance is art
music is art
photography is art
drawing is art
the way something moves could be "the art of the motion" of something!.

it's the same situation with math; how everything can be put in mathematical terms!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why is painting considered an art!? The paint and paint brush does all the work!. If you think the camera does all the work and not the photographer, you're dead wrong!.

Some people are terrible painters, some are great!. Some people are terrible photographers, while some are great!. It all comes down to whether or not the artist know what he/she is doing; which equals personal skills and artistic ability!.

You still don't get it, do you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

the photographer has to think about what he wants in the picture!. not only that, but he may also want to follow many of the principles out there, like the rules of thirds or working in the composition and thinking about thinking and such!. At the end, the photographer also has to develop the picture to his own specifications!. For example, you have to get the lighting just right when u develop the film and if you mess up that's an entire work gone just because of an extra second or so in the chemicalsWww@QuestionHome@Com

What the hell!?

It is art! And Us professional photographers are artist (By US Copyright Law we Legally are)!

Years of study, taking photographers!.!.!.!. Learning our craft! And you have the nerve to say that!?!!?!!?!

I guess you are saying that the painting is the art!.!.!.!.!. after all its the brush that does all the work and not the painter!.!.!.!.!.

After all its the paint brush that puts the pigment on the canvass!.!.!.!.!.

Hell the painter didn't study or learn his craft all those years!.!.!.!. they certainly don't deserve to be concidered artists by your definition!.!.!.!.!.

Or Musicians, or Sculptors, Glass Blowers, Or Directors!.!.!.!.!.!.

No, no artists by your short sided observation!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Art is really in the eye of the beholder!. A photograph can be quite beautiful, awe-inspiring, mind-bending!.!.!.just like the finest oils on canvas!.--Now if someone could just take a pic of something as dear to me as "the kiss"--I would be the first one in line to buy a print!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Let's see some of your work and we'll tell you if it's art or not!.

Apparently you can't tell the difference between art and a snapshot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
