Question: Have you given away your paintings!?
I love painting but have never put any of my paintings for sell!. Granted I only have been painting for a year !.!.!. although I am starting to accumulate a lot!
Anyway, I was thinking of giving away 3 of my paintings to neighbors and friends!. Would I be cheating myself!? Should artist always sell their paintings!? Have you given away any and then regret it!?
Every time I make something new I think about maybe I should put some for sale, but I get so attached to them! Anyone shares the same feelings!?

i give my work to family!.!. but it just all depends on the kind of person you are!. if you are fine with giving them to loved ones then go for it, and i always look at the piece as something i got joy out of making and i love it when people get joy out of them as well!. so im fine with giving/selling some of my paintings (well actually ive never sold any lol all of the ones good enough to sell are my favorites and i couldnt get rid of them) so i say, keep the ones you are really attached to and make sure you dont get rid of all of them, you will be sooo sad!. lol but maybe let some other people get some joy out of your work too!.

I give my paintings to friends all the time, but I also take them back!. When I'm done with a show, I give any work that didn't sell to my friends!. My gallery keeps the paintings on their website, so when they sell, I just go to my friends house, take the painting and replace it with another!. It's a win, win for all involved!. I get a place to safely store my work, and my friends have constantly revolving decor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
It's funny, although my family and friends have known for years i could draw or paint, no one ever asked me for one and i never gave giving them away much thought!. Now that i have actually been paid to do paintings for people i've been asked if i had any of my old stuff laying around that i wouldn't mind getting rid of!. That ''old stuff'' of course has sentimental value to me and i wouldn't think of selling it or giving it away now!. I've done and given paintings to my brother, sister, parents, and a favorite aunt/uncle that have been and continue to be supportive, but everyone else pays!. when i give one of my paintings away, i give it to a charity event of some sort (they have art auctions)!.!.!.that way you get a free ticket to the event and get treated like royalty and can schmooze with other artists and find out how they turn loose of their precious paintings and how they price them!.
giving to friends is o!.k!. sometimes, but often it isn't appreciated like it ought to be so prepare for some disappointment!.
locally there is an art auction for aids awareness and research that i give to, and the art center has an anual fundraiser auction that i give to!. both have a reception with food and treats, and they treat the doners like gods!. i love it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you give them away, the people you give them will know/think you really care about them that's why you're giving them away!. It's a nice gesture!. Now if you wanna make money then sell them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
