Most commonly it's known as light reflections!. When you are shooing almost into the sun, yet with sun out of frame - some of the direct sun rays still hit some of the lens elements!. If the lens i not perfectly clean (which it would be only in laboratory conditions) or optics is slightly less than perfect (again, perfect optics is something from the books) it will form a visible round image on some elements!. These are being captured and recorded!.!.!.!.

What about at night when there's no sun or other light sources that could reflect in the lens, just your flash in complete darkness!?

Dust particles or snow flakes during winter, even small insects (mosquitoes, and the like) outside - when they are pretty close to the lens and are hit by the light from your flash - they become highly over-exposed, or completely white with no details preserved, but also, because they're right in front of lens - they're badly out of focus!. And an out of focus particle becomes a circle, sometimes quite large, when very close to the lens!. This effect is called bokeh!.

Because these "orbs" have no reference point, they often create optical illusion of not being right in front of camera, but rather quite far!. But observe these pictures, you'll never see one of these orb partially hidden behind any other object!. That's because it can't be - it is always fully in frame, because no matter where it seems to be, it's in fact right in front of your lens!

The drops or dust stuck to your lens is also something that you can see as orbs for same reasons as above but during the day if they're well illuminated by available light!. It's sort of a blend of two above!.

Finally - ghosts, aliens, evil or not-so-evil spirits, and the like - I guess you may want to ask about them in a related group, perhaps you'll get a lot of versions or theories on that aspect!.

Could be a ghost, could be dust!? Take another photo in te same area, if they are still there it could be dust or specks on your camers!. Clean camera lense and take multiple pictures in same area!. Try to feel your feelings too!. Sometimes you can feel if there is a disturbance without the photos!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Orb backscatter has been interpreted by believers in ghosts, spirits etc as otherwise invisible spirits, auras, angels, ghosts, energy fields, psychoenergetic artifacts, energy balls or other paranormal phenomenon -- and hence beyond scientific explanation[1]!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Could be ghost, or just bits of dust, or a reflection of light that you didn't know was there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is what I have always heard too!. But sometimes don't you think its just a piece of dust!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

god i'm so tired of this ridiculous question!. of course they're not ghosts!. don't be stupid!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
