As everyone else said - your best bet is to buy more memory!.
And since your trip is 3 weeks from now, you have plenty of time to order a few cards online, to get the best price!. For example these 2GB cards are just $9 a piece and ship free!
http://www!.buy!.com/prod/dane-elec-2gb-sd!.!.!.

You can stock 2-3 extra cards and not worry about anything! It may cost you a lot more to buy them on the trip, so you better come with them in hand!

All that said - if you MUST sacrifice - drop quality, not size!.

Here's why:
When your camera captures an image, it will always use all of its sensors, all 5 million of them!. Then, if you tell it to go down to 3 million, what it will have to do, is throw away some of the information it captured!. That means it will look at groups of nearby pixels and try to combine them into single pixel!. Because it needs to do that on the fly and very fast, it uses the less effective algorithms than if you do the same on your computer!. The data it throws away is lost forever!. You can't get it back!.

If you lower quality, that means higher JPEG compression!. True, JPEG will also throw away more data, but it will do it's best to throw it away in a way that it can be reconstructed as close as possible to the original!. So, you may end up seing a little more artifacts, or maybe colors won't be as accurate, but every pixel that was captured will be there!. And because if you print at the same size later, each individual pixel will be smaller on your printout, making little imperfections less obvious!.

So basically - never give up the size and let your camera interpolate your image!. Don't dispose of your pixels, just compress them a bit harder!. Chances are you won't even see the difference on most everyday type of shots!. You will definitely notice the difference if you drop down the size, but then decide to either blow up the pic, or crop out a piece!.

Enjoy your trip!

Buy more memory cards if you can they are pretty cheap now!. If you do wanna fit more pictures on your camera change the size of the image!. If you are wanting to print them out on large paper your better off changing the quality because if you change the size it might look blurry on larger paper!. Anyway your best bet is still to buy more memory cards as you don't have to change the quality of the image!. Have fun in India :PWww@QuestionHome@Com
